Nahida Mahmood

These designs by Nahida Mahmood are very beautiful.
They are beautiful bright fabrics that have had patterns hand printed onto them.
The patterns look 3D! I love this effect. I have never seen anything like this before. I am inspired to do fabric-printing now after seeing Nahida's work.

Michael Brennard Wood

I love these beautiful designs by Michael Brennard Wood. They are made with buttons, beads and sequins. It is very beautiful. It is very inspirational to me and go very well with my exam title... Stylized patterns. I want my final piece to be as bright, bold and beautiful!

Stylised Patterns

I have just received my brief on topics I can choose for my Art exam (Unit 4)
The top three topics in my opinion are Stylised patterns, Sculptural pieces and Textiles techniques.
The one that I think I will choose is 'Stylised patterns', there is so much I could do with this topic.
Stylised patterns are Textile pieces often inspired by Natural forms that are developed into stylised patterns such as geometric shapes, diagonal lattices, parallel undulating lines and arabesques.
These patterns are so neat and tidy, I will have to practice stitching in a precise way but I may also experiment with my embroidery techniques and make the stitching look more rustic and rough.
I have looked at appropriate examples to use as inspiration for when I produce my own work.
It is bright, bold and colourfull and really stands out. I want my work to have the same Wow factor!
Which is titled, sunrise. The patterns are really beautiful and look like Indian inspired patterns.
I could also introduce animal prints as they will stand out quite a lot. They will add a natural feel to my work.
These ethnic prints are also really beautiful. Ther is a lot that I could do with these styled patterns.
They look very different to other patterns that I have seen.
The splashes of rich colours also add a luxury sense to them aswell.

Textiles box! :)

Handmade apron

This is an apron that I hand made in my free time.
I made it with a recycled calico fabric and trimmed it with a red ribbon.
I also cut out two birds using trimmings from a leftover pieces of fabrics. One bird is made from a blue and white polka dot fabric and the other is from a pink and white floral one.
It was a really easy piece to make and I found a simple measurements for each piece of the apron online.

Dissolvable fabric

For an idea on how to use water-soluble fabrics, click on the link:
I decided to create a Pasley inspired piece using water soluble fabric.
I used a red velvet piece for the background as I wanted the final piece to be more bold.
I then cut up blue, yellow, purple and green pieces of ribbon and sprinkled them on top. After that. I layed the piece of water solluble fabric on top before I started stitching.
I then stitched my patterns into it on the sewing machine with yellow and blue threads. These colours will really stand out on top of the red velvet fabric. the stitching will also trap the pices of ribbon aswell.
After I had finished, I put my piece in a bowl of warm water. This dissolved the water solluble fabric.
The piece looked really pretty!
To make it stand out even more, I cut into the piece to make it stand out more. Here is my finished piece:

Handmade girls bag

I made this beautiful girls bag using a bold pink pasley fabric. It was really easy to make!
I chose this beautiful Pasley fabric as it's really eye-catching and Pasley patterns are really in at the moment, especially since Karl Lagerfeld's release of his 'Paris-Bombay collection' for Chanel.
I also embellished the bag with a small figure that I hand-stitched, also stitching in sequins to make it more interesting.

My companion... my sewing machine:

I love my 'Silver' sewing machine. It is the perfect thing for free-hand stitching, straight stitching....
Anything!
I have had it for almost 2 years and it still works like new.
I take it with me every Wednesday on my Textiles course in Ysgol John Bright. It is quite heaving but easily portable. I don't know what I would do without it.

I keep it in my bedroom and it sits comfortably on its very own table.
It has also helped me achieve an A-B in all 3 of my Textile units.

Simple things made beautiful with fabrics:

How to make simple things look beautiful with fabrics:
I really love this chair, but it looks really plain. Which is definitely not my taste.
Let's see how we can jazz it up...

I have some beautiful Laura Ashley fabric left over from a previous project of mine. It is a lovely pink and white pinstriped fabric:

This beautiful gold and cream cushion would look really nice on the chair too. The cherry on top!
I covered the chair in the fabric, draping it over the back of the chair. Then placed the cushion on the chair too. This will look perfect nex to my desk now:

The perfect fabric can make a simple thing look beautiful!
